He was a native of Segal, KY, a U.S. Army veteran, a pilot and a member of Douglass Hills Church of Christ. He retired from General Electric with over 33 years of service.
Jim had a love for children and education, and wanted every child to have the opportunity to go to college. So, for many years he had set up college funds for several to achieve that dream of a higher education. To all his neighbors and friends he was lovingly known as "The Lawn Mower Man." He loved to tinker with them and fix them up.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Monroe and Dora Jane Durbin Doyle; his loving wife of 54 years, Gladys M. Clark Doyle, and his daughter, Teresa Ann Doyle.
He is survived by his son, Darrell Doyle (Laurie); sisters, Dorothy Doyle and Anna Belle Durcot; and special friends, Sharon Willis and Joan Coffey, who looked after and cared for him.
His Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bardstown Road, with interment in Shrewsbury Cemetery in Leitchfield, KY. Visitation will be on Monday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to service time.
