We just came home from traveling and I was sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. What an incredible loss for his family and the St. Athanasius community. He was full of joy and will be greatly missed. I have no doubt he is exactly where God intended and watching over us all.

I was just a friend of you Granddaughters, I never knew the moment I met you that my children and I would become one of your own. I miss you Gramps. Watch over my boys on game day, I know you're there still.... love you

I first met Jim when his daughter Melissa and I started dating and I was immediately impressed. He had been working in the shipping department of Brown Foreman for around 15 years at the time. I was inspired by his work ethic and dedication to his occupation and aspired to those things for myself. 

In time I realized there was so much more to Jim. Life had thrown him some significant curve balls but he always held his head up and persevered. Miscarriages, the chronic illness and early passing of his beloved wife Ellen, a drastic career change, medical debt and the birth of a child with a disability were all adversities which would have rendered a lesser person bitter and broken. 

When Jim made friends it was for life. Although Missy had no natural siblings, the children of Jim’s lifelong relationships became Missy’s heart sisters and heart brothers and later, by extension, mine and their families became ours.

Jim was a humble man and always there for his family. No matter where, what time or what was needed, he was always available and present for us all. His greatest joys were watching his extended family grow and being deeply involved in their lives and activities. 

I admired Jim’s dedication to his faith, his church and his understanding of how his life and his contributions fit in to the realm of God’s plan.

I can’t accurately convey the warmth I felt being included into his circle and his family or the honor I felt being deemed worthy of taking his beloved daughter’s hand.

I will greatly miss our chats about life, faith, the trials and tribulations of working in the transportation industry or the latest antics of our kitties. And I’ll miss the road trips and hours long conversations during which he, Missy and I would solve the world’s problems or just drifting off to the sound of the two of them chatting away. I love you Dad.


Gramps, I don't have words to say how much you will be missed. Thanks for always being there through the years when you didn't have to be, just because your big heart was just so full of love. You were OD and Gramps not by merit of blood but because of who you were and what you brought to the world and our family and other families. You had so many who loved you. We miss you so very much but we know you are happy and healthy again with Ellen and Melissa and all the other you missed so much. We love you and will miss you until we meet again one day. 

Jim was a special friend with a strong faith that was tested so many times - we prayed the Rosary together at the St Athanasius Men's Club, & we shared our faith & stories about our families on rides to Mass on Sundays  and occasionally when he needed a ride to a doctor's appointment. I was always impressed by his continued trust in God no matter how difficult things were, & he made a difference in my life and so many others, young and old, that he met over the years - rest in peace my friend, I'm sure the Lord greeted you with "well done good & faithful servant" -----

Dear David and the whole family  ,I'm sorry for your loss,  Gramps was super special to me in the 26 years that he adopted my family into his ,was the most special thing I have experienced up to that point in my life ,he loved us when he didn't have to ,he became a 2nd  father to me  and grandfather to my kids ,I will treasure all our talk ,visits and memories that I hold dearly in my heart ,he traveled with Dawn to bring us back to Kentucky to visit ,he saw the ocean with Anthony , he stood in lines with Eryn at six flags ❤️,we  did not get to see Gramps as often as I would have liked but we alway shared the best visits ,we loved walking on the walking bridge with him , we used to talk about the ocean and light house's. I love you so much Gramps!!!
