James "Jim" L Willett

James Leonard "Jim" Willett, a family man, passed away peacefully at home on September 6, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on July 19, 1941, in Union County, Kentucky, Jim was a man whose life was defined by love, faith, and a gentle spirit.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James M. and Annie T. Willett; his brothers, Lawrence and Thomas Willett; his sister, Frances Floyd; his nephew, Donald Floyd; and his granddaughters, Lucy and Ellie Raisor. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and his memories of them remained a source of comfort throughout his life.

Moved to Louisville in his teen years. A veteran of the Air Force. Always a handyman, he made many changes by his own hand to his home of 57 years. A lifelong University of Kentucky fan, he bled blue through every season—win or lose. In addition, he was an expert Rose Gardener. He was known as a man of few words, for the Willett scowl, a perfectly timed one-liner, or a muttered statement. His humor was subtle, his delivery deadpan, and his timing impeccable.

Jim is survived by his wife, Carol L. Willett, with whom he shared 59 years of unwavering partnership. Together, they raised a family that became Jim's pride and joy: his son, Greg (Angel); daughters, Karen (Joe H.) Wright, Sandy (Paul) Raisor, and Jill (Rob) Owen. His legacy continued to flourish through his cherished grandchildren, Amber, Megan, Tyler, and Haylee Willett; Maxwell (Emily) and Zachary (Tori) Wright; Carson and Reese Owen; and Amelia, Derrick, and Shawn Raisor. Jim's life was further enriched by a host of nieces and nephews who will miss his presence deeply.

Funeral mass to celebrate James L. Willett will be 1pm, Friday, September 12, 2025 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, 1020 E. Burnett Ave. Louisville, KY 40217 with entombment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 4-7pm, Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road.
