

James Herman Monhollon, 92, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025. Born in Corbin, Kentucky, on July 29, 1933, James lived a long and full life with a love for family, of all things sports, especially the Kentucky Wildcats, Louisville Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, travel, and his love of God.
Jim was a tremendous athlete, attending Lincoln Memorial University on a basketball scholarship. He left after two years to serve in the army. He then moved to Louisville to work as an accountant for Reliance Universal, now known as AkzoNobel, for more than forty years. While coaching softball for Walnut Street Baptist Church, he met the love of his life, Shirley Milburn. They were married for 66 years.
Jim is survived by his wife, Shirley and their two daughters, Lynn (Barry) Akins and Robin (Landon) Brown . He has four grandchildren: Alison (Justin) Ramey, Kylee (Spencer) Abernethy, Brandon (Courtney) Akins, and Zachary Marcy. He also has eight great grandchildren: Abigail, Alexa, Ashlynn, Jessica, Jacey, and Josh Ramey and Silas and Esmay Akins. Jim has a brother-in-law, Alben (Donna) Milburn and sister-in-law, Mavis Milburn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Luther and Dessie Alsip Monhollen, two brothers, Homer and Harold Monhollen, a sister, Doris Monhollen, and an extra sister, Wanda Frizzell.
David Garrard and Justin Ramey will conduct the service. Pallbearers are Barry Akins, Brandon Akins, Landon Brown, Zachary Marcy, Mark Milburn, and Justin Ramey.
A funeral service will be held at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky on Tuesday, December 9th, 2025 at noon, with a visitation from 10:00 am until noon. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of his life.
