

Joan Condon (Grenawalt) Shepler, 95, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2024. Born July 19, 1928, in Omaha, Nebraska, Joan Shepler led a life dedicated to education and community service. She graduated from the University of Missouri, where she was a proud member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority, and later earned a graduate degree from the University of Louisville.
Joan devoted 30 years to the Jefferson County Public Schools, where she served as an elementary teacher, principal of Wilder Elementary School, Director of Elementary Education, Regional Superintendent, and Assistant Superintendent. Her commitment to education left a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues.
A devoted member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Joan was also actively involved in Delta Kappa Gamma and honored as a Kentucky Colonel.
Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Bill D. Shepler, and her son, Gerald Shepler. She is survived by her son, Patrick Shepler, and daughters, Kathleen Shepler and Carol Shepler. Joan cherished her granddaughters, Jennifer Ryan Beamer (Timothy), Devon Deckard Sullivan (David), Colleen Nelson, and Melodie Nelson, as well as her great-grandchildren, Divia Sullivan, Maxwell Beamer, and Tanner Sullivan. Her loyal dog, Lily, also survives her.
Joan had a profound love for animals, gardening, and a deep appreciation for nature. In her memory, remembrances may be made to Maryhurst, the Animal Care Society, or Kentucky Dachshund Rescue.
Guests are invited to attend a Memorial visitation from 4-6PM on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd. Louisville KY 40222. A memorial Service to celebrate Joan's life will be held at 1:30PM on Friday, June 21, 2024 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 330 N. Hubbards Lane. Louisville, KY 40207.
