Katherine Cross Stewart

Born in Danville, Kentucky on August 29, 1943 Katherine was the daughter of the late Newman Arnold Cross & Minnie Ethel Neikirk. Katherine was an Art Teacher for the Jefferson County Public Schools for over 30 years, retiring in 2001. She was an avid lover of animals of all types & sizes, especially cats & dogs. She was a great, accomplished teacher, where many of her students went on to have successful art careers. Oil painting & Drawings were her specialty.

Katherine is preceded in passing by her husband, Manuel Stewart; parents, Newman Arnold & Minnie Ethel Neikirk Cross; sisters, Bette Buckaway & Doris Bright; brother–in–law, Bud Bright; & her “pig” friends, Libby Enlow, Susie Turnbull & Linda Swart.

Left to cherish her memory is her children, Arlo Rhea Stewart & Manuel “Jack” Stewart II; brother-in– law, Bill Buckaway; nephews, John Bright & Will Buckaway; sister-in-law, Nell Doris Stewart, niece, Carla Pursley-Jones and Terry Jones; nephew, Phillip and Carolyn Pursley; numerous beloved cousins; her solo “pig” friend, Dorie Pyles; close friend, Bunny Carter; her furbabies, Rupert, Fiona, Larry & Roy; and her granddogs, Denali & Mishka.

A host of additional relatives, friends, and former students also mourn her passing.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Funeral Home.
