My wife, Shinobu, and I, were very close to Ken and Setsuko as we both served duty at the Funabashi Transmitter Site in Japan during the early sixties while in the US. Air Force.  Setsuko and Kenny both came  to our son's wedding here in Waukesha, Wisconsin in 1991.  I stopped by thier home in Ill. before they went to Ky.,  but have not heard from them since.  We would like to hear from Setusko if possible.  Deeply sorry to hear of Ken;s passing, he was such a great human being and the real world will miss him dearly.

In 1974 I took a vacation to Hawaii. Ken and Sets were living in San Mateo California and met me in San Francisco as I had a lay-over on my way home.  They invited me to stay for a week so I got off the plane and spent the week with them.   We rode across the Golden Gate Bridge, saw street cars  and walked around  China Town and went to a little league ballgame for Matt.   Since they hadn't been home for awhile, they decided to drive me home and surprise Mom and Dad.  Ken had a camper/truck and we slept in the back.  We visited the Grand Canyon and I remember driving through Oklahoma City.  We missed our exit to Louisville and somehow landed up in downtown St Louis close to the baseball stadium where we asked a policeman for directions to Louisville KY.  He told us that we would have to go through Illinois first! (Like we didn't know that already!)  We finally found our way on the right highway and the right direction.  This was before I-64 became the major highway it is today.  As we got closer to Louisville it got dark and we could see the lights of the city, but somehow took a wrong turn and got lost in Corydon, Indiana.  It was rather late, so we spent the night in a parking lot of a gas station.  The next morning we discover that if we had gone a mile farther up the road we would have found I-64 was right there and we could have gotten home that night.  Mom and Dad were surprised and happy and we all had a great visit.  When it came time for Ken and Sets to go back to California, Gary went back with them for a  week.  I'll never forget that trip,

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Carolyn Mershon and Deborah Rubino and his brother, Gary Howell. 

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Setsuko; his son, Matt (Barb) Howell and daughter, Sandy (Mike) Reitman; grandchildren, Joe (Valerie) Reitman, Mieko (Nick) Templeton, Emiko Reitman (fiancé, Blake Burgmier), David Trinidad (Britni) and Joe Trinidad, 5 great-grandchildren, 8 siblings and many nieces and nephews.
