Thinking of you and how much I admired the passion you had for making yourself a better human each and every day.  Not gifted with the size, speed or strength to play football at Trinity High School, you never accepted the word "quit".  It was your dream.  Surrounded by 5- star athletes every day for hours you never wavered or backed off from a drill or tackle.  My friend you made that dream come true and had a state championship ring your junior year to prove it.  Such a great father, husband, friend and as close to perfect as possible, I know God has You and Bobbie in his arms as you all watch Josie excel.  I love you brother.  Doug Metry

Mr. Chitwood was such an amazing man. I can't believe he's been gone almost a year. Loved him so much. I still remember his laugh and his smile. Always brightened my day. Still think about him all the time. He was truly a great great man.

Bobbie and Josie,

I still can't find the words to adequately express my overwhelming sadness for the loss of our beloved Kevin. He was always our hero and now he is a hero to all. His infectious laugh, zest for life, dry wit and sarcastic sense of humor lit up every room he walked in. 

I am tremendously blessed to have known Kevin for so long-through engagement parties, wedding celebrations, first houses, baby showers, newborns, and family vacations. I will never forget our first summer vacation together at Dufuskie Island. Somehow, Kevin trained a young Josie to be on Chitwood Time, sleeping late until noon so he would never have to get up too early. While the Chitwoods slept, the rest of us went to the beach, worked-out, and had lunch while they were rolling out of bed for breakfast. Kevin loved that island as it was the only place where he could sleep until noon yet still beat the delivery of the morning newspaper which had to be shipped in by boat. He finally found a place that ran late on Chitwood Time. Over the years, he was late for dinners, parties and our other get togethers, laughingly making us adjust to his Chitwood Time.  

He will be always loved, forever missed and continue to live on in our hearts forever. Sadly, this time, Chitwood time came much too early

 My husband and I  learned of Mr. Chitwood's death from the news. We offer our deepest condolences. I did not know Mr. Chitwood, but from reading about him I would guess that, if he had been able to choose a way to die he would have chosen to do so while saving the life of his child.

Kevin you always had a smile and something humorous to say to me during our time at T.H.S. Although we rolled with different "clicks" you were always cool to me. I've never forgotten that. I do not personally know the Chitwood family, but I did meet Kim in the Atlanta airport. We were on the same flight coming into Mobile. I got the feeling she came from a sweet and loving family . I am so sorry , and please know my prayers are with you all .

We read the story of your loved one and we are so sorry for your sorrow.  May the Lord hold you in His loving arms and carry you through.  We are inspired by Kevin's selflessness and sacrifice.

Even as far back as grade school at Sacred Heart, Kevin was a fun-loving, kind, and magnetic personality that brought joy and happiness to our entire class. Even after 35 years, I still cherish the memories of those early days growing up, and hope Bobbie and Josie find some comfort knowing that (as many have said), Kevin was a positive influence for all those fortunate enough to have met him.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Chitwood family.  Kevin was one of the most positive individuals I ever had the pleasure of knowing at Trinity.  He will be missed.

It was especially a pleasure watching him interact with our girls on and off the courts. They all loved and trusted "Coach Chitwood".  Win or lose, he just wanted them to be happy and have fun.  His special soul made sure that happened.  It was obvious how much he truly cared. It was also obvious how much he loved you both, and he was always so proud of you, Josie.  Anyone who  knew Kevin, was blessed by his presence in our lives, but you guys carry the biggest blessings from him and always will.

Kevin made an impact on all who knew him. His kind heart and generous spirit will be deeply missed. Love and prayers to Bobbie and Josie.
