Larry Gene Rhodes

Larry Gene Rhodes, 91, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025. Born on February 28, 1934, to Geraldine Sarah (née Trapp) and Larkin Lewis Rhodes, Larry spent his life dedicated to his family and service to his country and career.

A proud graduate of Eastern High School, Larry went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. His dedication extended beyond his military service, as he built a distinguished career in security at National Distillery, where he faithfully served for over 30 years, ultimately rising to head of security.

In 1958, Larry married Dorothy Cecilia Flynn. Together, they shared 65 years of partnership until Cecilia’s passing in 2023. Their life together was highlighted by their dedication to their daughters, home, family and friends.

Larry is survived by his two loving daughters, Kimberly Ann Rhodes and Dr. Kelly Rhodes-Stark (Dr. Steven Stark), who continue to honor his legacy through their own lives. He was a proud grandfather to Jeremy McMahan, Joshua McMahan, Hillary (Stark) Rose (Richard Rose, Jr.), and Daniel Stark, and a beloved great-grandfather to six great-grandsons, each of whom brought him joy.

Larry will be remembered for his outgoing, fun-loving personality (exemplified by his ever-present peace sign in photos) and deep love for his family. His impact will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
