Laura was a proud graduate of Shawnee High School. In the years that followed, she embarked on a rewarding career at the Ford Motor Company, dedicating many years of service before her well-earned retirement.
Laura's joy was found in the simple pleasures of life. She loved making ceramics, watching Westerns and game shows. However, nothing compared to the joy she felt when spending time with her loving family. Regular trips to Gatlinburg, surrounded by the beauty of the Smoky Mountains, were among Laura's most cherished moments.
Laura’s memory will live on through her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James H. Wheat Sr.; her parents; as well as her daughter Sherri Nalley and her husband Tim Nalley, her brother, Mose Taylor; and sister, Marilu Tatum. Her memory will be forever held in the hearts of her brother, William "Bill" Taylor (Rosie), and sister, Iris Akins, as well as her children James "Jamie" H. Wheat Jr. (Brenda), Melynda "Mindy" Metcalfe (Wayne), Joseph "Joby" Wheat (Shelley), Aydan Wheat, and Mary Thompson. As well as her brother and sisters-in- law; Nathan “Bubby” Wheat (Maria), Lora Price, and Barbara Eskins (Gary).
Her light will continue to shine brightly through her grandchildren, Shaila Fox (Christopher), Mark Nalley (Cybrina), Allison Shaffer (Sean), Alisha Wheat, Alex Metcalfe, Nathan “Nate” Wheat, and Zachary "Zac" Wheat, as well as her treasured great-grandson, Emmit Shaffer, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, will also keep the warmth of her memory alive.
Laura will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
