

She was born April 18, 1938 to the late Marion and Laura Turner Miniard at Napier, Kentucky.
Lela was preceded in death by her four brothers, Ernest P. Miniard, Walter Miniard, Creed Miniard, Carl Miniard and her sisters, Jewell M. Stewart and Glenna R. Habich. Edna Miniard.
She is survived by her sisters, Gladys R. Miniard, Louisville, Kentucky and Alfredia M. Kenney, Seattle, Washington, along with several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Lela attended Loyall High School in Harlan County and graduated from Red Bird Settlement School in Beverly, Kentucky. After graduating, Lela joined her sisters in Louisville, Kentucky and later became a member of the Coast Guard Reserve. She retired from Henry Vogt Machine Company with 35 years of service. After retiring, Lela volunteered at her church, Harmony Baptist, working at the Clothes Closet and Food Pantry there.
Lela enjoyed being with friends and family, going to movies, reading and doing crossword puzzles. In early years, she participated in many activities at the YWCA and enjoyed traveling, mostly in the USA.
Lela will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Lela’s caregivers.
Family and friends will gather at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home at 4400 Bardstown Rd. for visitation on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 11:00am-1:00pm and a prayer service to follow, starting at 1:00pm. On Wednesday, May 30, 2018 Lela will be taken to Verda First Baptist Church in Verda, Kentucky for funeral services.
Burial will be at Abner’s Branch Cemetery in Napier, Kentucky. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
