She was born to the late Everett and Cornelia Layman on June 24, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky where she grew up with her 5 siblings. Linda graduated from Valley High School in 1965 and then enjoyed a variety of jobs including employment at Enro Shirt Company, co-owning a convenience store, operating her own picture framing shop, and working at Aldersgate CDC for many years.
On November 5, 1966, she married her best friend Donald Albro and they built a life together that she was proud of. The early years of their marriage saw homes in New York, Texas, Indiana, Illinois and finally back to Louisville, KY, having three children (Doug, Michelle, and Dana) along the way. Linda always put her family first and lived her life showing her love and support for her husband and kids, and for her extended family as well. For many years, she hosted a huge Christmas Eve party at her home where she and Don would host their kids, her siblings, her mom, her siblings’ kids, her sibling’s kid’s kids…everyone would gather at their home and would laugh and reconnect and enjoy the love of family on that special night.
She loved adventure, people watching, spending time with her husband at their Myrtle Beach place and things that were a little bit weird (Big Foot, UFO’s, Area 51…). She was a tough and fearless free spirit who loved thunderstorms, fireworks, and casinos, but she also loved breathing the warm sea air while walking along the beach holding the hand of the man she loved most.
Her greatest joy was her family, and she never wavered in her love for her grandchildren. She was hungry for details of their lives; a quick “Hi Grandma” text or a phone call would make her day. There aren’t enough words to describe how proud she was of each of them, and she would go on and on about their interests, accomplishments, and her hopes for their future.
In April of 2020, she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. She was a warrior, never giving up hope and never giving in to fear. Her treatment was successful, and she would be proud to say that cancer didn’t win. She was an example of grace and strength, always more concerned about others than herself.
Linda is survived by her loving husband Don, her three children: Doug (Karen) Albro, Michelle (Chris) Morris, and Dana (Tracey) Brown. Her 12 grandchildren include: Brittany Porter, Jonathan (Sara) Albro, Victoria Albro, Katie (Hunter) Steinhour, Austin (Kenzie) Morris, Sydney (Noah) Enix, Taylor Morris, Evelyn Brown, Grace Brown, Kurt Brown, Charlie Brown, Lucas Brown. Her five (soon six) Great Grandchildren: Juliet and Dane Porter, Sunny and Silas Albro, Elaina (and soon, Baby Girl) Morris. Linda is also survived by two brothers, Kenneth, and Michael Layman, and was preceded in death by her two sisters Lois Jean Layman Whaley and Nannette Layman Dailey, and her brother Larry “Rick” Layman.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 12,2022, beginning at 10:00 AM and will run until the time of the service at 12:30 PM. A private burial at Bethany Memorial Cemetery will follow the service.
Linda loved flowers and would appreciate any remembrance gesture, but if you would like to show your support in other ways, please consider a donation to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at pancan.org.
