

1940 in St. Mary, KY returned to her heavenly father on March 26, 2022.
Margaret’s Catholic faith was a mainstay and stronghold for her throughout her lifetime. She
took to heart the lessons she learned from the Baltimore Catechism of her youth. “God made
you to know him, to love him and to serve him in this life, so that you might be happy with him
forever in the next life.
Margaret worked as a secretary at St. Mary’s College until its closing and later secretary at St.
Ignatius Church under Fr. Jim Thompson. She spent her life being a steward of God, always
giving of her time, talents, and treasure to those in need. She was a caregiver for her mother,
aunt, uncle, nieces and nephews. Margaret volunteered her time helping out at the Franciscan
Healthcare Center.
Margaret is predeceased by two sisters and five brothers. She is survived by her four sisters:
Catharine J. “Kate” Mattingly, Elizabeth Browning, Gertrude “Trudy” (Charles) Strickland and
Bernadette (Dennis) Thompson. Margaret will be forever missed by her many nieces and
nephews whom she gave so much love and joy to in her lifetime.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate the life of Margaret will be, Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 10:30am at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 5500 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY 40291.
