Maria Eureka Mamauag, lovingly known as “Windy,” passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, in her home. She was surrounded by her husband, Gilbert; son, Miguel; daughter, Erica; and sisters, Tess and Marla.
Born on June 30, 1964, in Quezon City, Philippines, to the late Alfonso and Leonila Due, Windy entered the world on a particularly blustery night—earning her the nickname that would follow her throughout her vibrant life.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Gilbert; her children, Miguel and Erica; her sisters, Tess and Marla; four brothers, Mon, Arnel, Bok, and Jun; two beloved dogs, Bizkit and Mochi; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Farah, her brother Jesus, and her cherished dogs Kulit, Chuck, Momo, and Gravee.
Windy met Gilbert in medical school where she traded her charm for his test answers. After completing medical school, she followed her passion for teaching, and she went on to inspire students as a physiology professor at Far Eastern University. When Gilbert’s career brought them to America, Windy selflessly embraced her role as a homemaker with grace and humor, raising her young son and welcoming her daughter soon after. In Kentucky, she proudly adopted the playful identity of a “Fil-billy”—a Filipino hillbilly—bringing joy and laughter to all who knew her.
Windy was best known for her infectious laugh, a sound so distinct it could be heard from miles away. According to some, she even laughed in her sleep. She embodied fabulousness, living by the motto: “You don’t have to be the best, as long as you are the best dressed.” She had an appreciation for the finer things in life, but also was easy to please. Give her a bucket of KFC and she will happily eat it, dressed head-to-toe in Louis Vuitton.
Her generosity of spirit was unmatched. Windy had a gift for making everyone feel like family. For her - this included roasting someone immediately upon meeting them. If she did this though, you knew she loved you. She was fiercely loyal to her friends and protective of her children. She was strong-willed, passionate, and never afraid to stand firm in what she believed. Later in life, she found joy in crafting beautiful wreaths, a creative outlet through which she shared her happiness with others.
Windy’s life was a tapestry of laughter, love, and unwavering devotion. She leaves behind a legacy of joy, resilience, and beauty that will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her. May her laughter echo in our hearts forever, reminding us to live boldly, love deeply, and always find reasons to smile.
