

Marilyn “Jean” Straus Barton, passed away on November 9, 2010 at Norton Inpatient Unit- Hosparus in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Minard H. Straus on June 23, 1921 in St.. Louis, Missouri.
They moved to Peoria, Il where she graduated from Peoria Central High School in 1939. She attended Kaskasi College for two years. She was employed in the Geological Department of Shell Oil when she married Lt. Leonard F. Barton, USN on April 28, 1943. They traveled while he was in the Navy and upon discharge settled in Peoria, IL. In 1948 they move to St. Louis, Mo where she lived till they moved to Jefferson City, Mo in 1953. While in Jefferson City she was active in PTA, Girl Scouts of America as a leader and the First Baptist Church. In 1959, they were transferred to Topeka, KS where she was active as a volunteer at Stormont Vail Hospital, Eastern Star, Bowling League and several bridge clubs. In 1970 they moved to Louisville, KY where she was active in Welcome Wagon, Melbourne Heights Baptist Church and several bridge clubs.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and wife who was always there for her children and grandchildren after school.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Leonard F. Barton; two daughters, Marilyn Joye Barton (Larry Osborne) of Louisville and Sharon Lee Hewitt (David) of Wichita, KS; two grandsons, Gregory Scott Fickler (Liz Snyder-Fickler) of Cary, NC and Steven Barton Fickler of Louisville, KY; one great-grandson, Jackson Sheryl Fickler of Cary, NC; and a sister Joye Ann Neudecker of St. Louis, Mo.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be conducted Monday, November 15, 2010 at 10:00 am at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bardstown Road with private burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-7 on Sunday at the funeral home
