

Born on August 14th, 1937 in Gilpin, Kentucky. Marilyn dedicated her life to faith, family, and the countless students she nurtured throughout her teaching career. She spent 22 years shaping young minds, instilling not only knowledge but also kindness, patience, and a love of learning. Even after retiring, she remained a mentor, always eager to share wisdom and encouragement.
Her faith in God was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through every joy and challenge with grace and unwavering trust. She was an active member of Southeast Christian Church, where she found great joy in worship, fellowship, and serving others.
Family was her greatest treasure, and she loved fiercely and unconditionally. Whether celebrating life’s milestones or offering quiet support in difficult times, she was always present with open arms and a loving heart.
An avid Shanghai Rummy player, she rarely turned down a game, delighting in the competition and camaraderie it brought. Many cherished memories were made around the card table, where laughter, stories, and a little friendly rivalry filled the air.
Marilyn leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness. She is survived by her 3 girls Jean Kaye Ethington of Louisville, Jerri Lynn Byrum of Louisville, and Joan Marie Byrum-Wright (Rick) of Louisville, 4 grandchildren, Chad Edward Young of Louisville, Amanda Brooke Willis (Rhyan) of Lagrange, Jodi Denise Glendenning (Brian) of Louisville, and Ashley Nicole Cox (David) of Mt. Washington, 9 great-grandchildren Braxton Lee Cox of Mt. Washington, Jackson Andrew Glendenning of Louisville, Rhylee Brooke Willis of Lagrange, Caden Ray Cox of Mt. Washington, William Theodore Young of Louisville, Joseph Fredrik Glendenning of Louisville, Ellie Grace Cox of Mt. Washington, Carter Matthew Willis of Lagrange, and Beckham Alexander Willis of Lagrange, her best friend and sister-in-law Norma Wesley of Tampa, as well as many extended family members, friends, and former students who were blessed to know her.
A celebration of her life will be held on at Resthaven Funeral Home. 4400 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY 40218 on March 5, 2025 from 2PM to 8PM. A funeral service will be held the following day on March 6, 2025 at 2PM.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing she is now in the presence of the Lord, rejoicing in eternal peace. Her love, wisdom, and laughter will forever be carried in the hearts of those she touched.
