Mary Jane Portman Spalding

Mary Jane Portman Spalding, 89, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021. She was a resident of Nazareth Home Clifton and a native of Louisville Kentucky. She was born July 5, 1931 to the late Joseph A and Julia (Milliner) Portman of Grayson County Kentucky. She was a graduate of Mercy Academy High School. Mary Jane was a devout Catholic and member of St Bernard Catholic Church where she served on the Bereavement Committee and enjoyed the ministry and fellowship of the Secret Sisters. She had great faith and devoted her life to prayer and serving God, her family and others. She loved cooking, gardening, plants, picnics, traveling and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James W. Spalding; her youngest son, Gregory Spalding; one grandson, Joey Spalding; and her only sister, Betty Portman Kelty.

Left to cherish her memory are her remaining 6 children, Michael J., Stephen A., Benjamin J., (Dianne), Theresa Smalley (Scott), of Frankfort, KY, Amy Cooper (Meredith), Laurie A. (Brian); 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Mass will be Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 9:30am at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday at Evergreen Funeral Home from 3:00pm until 8:00pm.
