

Quest, Mary Jane (Upton), 101, passed away on Monday August 10, 2015. She was born November 30, 1913 at her home on S. Birchwood, Louisville, KY. She is preceded in death by her parents Henry Lee and Lelia Ellen Pritchard Upton, her sisters, Nona Pilcher and Mildred Gill, her husband William Jennings Quest, and her grandson Steven Patrick Henchey. Left to cherish her memory are her children Elizabeth Gardner, William J. Quest Jr. (Ann), Charles Edward Quest (Jane), and Barbara Henchey (Gene), 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Mary Jane was the youngest Upton girl. At 13 she learned to drive a Ford Model A Rumble Seat Roadster. She was president of the student body at Atherton High School. She attended The University of Louisville and the Spencerian Business School. Learning was her lifelong passion. She enjoyed socializing and sports. She swam across the Ohio River and back. She also played tennis and golf. Mary Jane was a wonderful housewife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed bridge, volunteering, church, knitting, games, and reading. She was a member of the Women’s Club of Louisville and the Crescent Hill United Methodist Church. Her most outstanding attribute was her gift of optimism and the love of the Lord. She always looked at the good in everyone. She accepted life challenges with courage and dignity. Her cup was always half full.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2015 at Arch L Heady and Son –Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Ave, Louisville, KY 40206. Burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday August 13, 2015.
