Mary Janet Wilson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, at Nazareth Home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Louisville to the late Clifford and Mary Woosley, Jan lived a life full of love, kindness, and unwavering faith. Jan was a woman of strength and warmth, known for the radiant smile that rarely left her face. She had a deep love for children, owning and operating the Cane Run Daycare Center, where she nurtured countless young lives with patience and care. Before marrying and starting a family, she attended Murray State and worked at the Bluebird Pie Company. She loved the Lord and often found comfort in His word, sharing scripture with those she loved. Jan had special wit about her and was a woman who led with both compassion and wisdom. She was the kind of grandmother who scooped up her grandkids, covered them in hugs and kisses, and made them feel like the most cherished people in the world. Jan was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Clarence Wilson Jr., and her siblings Howard Woosley, Hazel Lashley, Juanita Vincent, Tess Woosley, and Betty Warren. She is survived by her loving children, Susan “Dee Dee” Gilliland, Jackie Fryer-Gowen (Scott), and Mark Wilson (Cassandra); grandchildren, Megan Snyder (Chris), Garrett Fryer, Amanda Warren; and great grandchildren Audriana and Benson Snyder. Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the incredible staff at Nazareth Home, especially Maggie, Becca, Cicada, and Sister Serra for their compassion and care. Mary Janet Wilson was more than just a mother and grandmother, she was a light in the lives of all who knew her. She was a faithful servant, a devoted friend, and, simply put, the best human. While she will be deeply missed, her love and legacy will live on in the hearts of her family forever.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Hardy Heady Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Highway, followed by burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will take place from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
The family requests donations to the Nazareth Home in lieu of flowers.
