Nancy Preuss Smith, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, after many years of health challenges. Nancy was born on April 8, 1946, to Emaile C. and Virginia L. (Wright) Preuss. She will be remembered for her deep love of family and friends, her unwavering faith, and her loud and enthusiastic support of University of Louisville basketball.
Nancy graduated from Lindsey Wilson College and Kentucky Wesleyan College. She worked as a teacher for several years in the elementary and pre-school settings. Later, she felt a strong calling to deepen her faith and service. She attended Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and become a pastor in the United Methodist Church. She treasured her relationships with friends and the members of the congregations she served.
Her most treasured relationship was with Tom, her loving husband of 57 years. Theirs was a lifetime love and their strong, enduring connection inspired others in countless ways. She will be deeply missed.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Tom; her son, Kevin Smith and his partner, Megan Strothman; her daughter, Holly Dunsworth and her husband, Rich; her brothers, Don and Ron Preuss; and her grandchildren, Nicolas, Matthew, and Emma Dunsworth.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wesley Manor Charitable Care, 5012 East Manslick Road, Louisville, KY 40219.
