Oral E. “Tubby” Taylor, 86 of Louisville passed peacefully at his home surrounded by family and loved ones on February 10. He was born in Cub Run, KY on January 9, 1932 to Hillard and Mable Taylor. He was a member of Cub Run United Methodist Church. After graduating from Cub Run H.S. in 1950, he enlisted and proudly served in the United States Army in the 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War at the rank of a Corporal. He married the love of his life, the former Norma Jean Davis from Sunfish, KY in 1958 and their union produced four sons: David (Pam), Morris, Doug (Debra), and Robert (Karen Cain). They have seven grandchildren: Nick (Christa), Amanda, Amber, Jared, Aaron, Bailey, Maddie and one great-grandchild, Grace. Tubby retired from Brown & Williamson after 29 years of service as a Machinist/Oiler and the union shop steward. He stayed active after retirement. He was a faithful volunteer for the Louisville Veterans Administration Hospital where he received multiple awards and recognition for his community service efforts. His active membership was held at Grace Community Baptist Church. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Iroquois Hill Post #6182 where he held several positions before ultimately serving as the Post Commander from 2002 - 2004. He joined the Louisville Plumb Masonic Lodge F & AM #862 where he achieved Master Mason status in 1963. He demitted to become a member of the Cub Run Masonic Lodge #910 and was elected Lodge Master in 1971. He joined the Louisville Fraternal Order of Kosair Shriners in 2002. He was commissioned an honorable Kentucky Colonel in 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Norma and son Morris as well as siblings: Mae, Wilma, Waymon, Kenneth, Armond, Norman, and half brother Charles. He is survived by brother Jerry (Martha) and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law that he was very close with: Eurita, Rethel, Jenell (Kaye Don), Winston (Jean), Joyce (Michael), Michelle and Paulette. He also leaves behind 28 nieces and nephews who all agree that Uncle Tubby was their favorite. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 on Saturday at Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home. 3601 Taylor Blvd., with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be from 3-8 pm Friday and 9-11:30 on Saturday.
