Pat welcomed me into the Ballard family in 1972 as a longhaired Florida kid who didn't know a soul at BHS.  My school year hadn't even started when I met the guidance counselor a week before the year started when Mr. Crawford put his arm around me and told me I was going to love it at Ballard.  I did!  Thanks Pat! Great leadership and compassion.  And a shout out to the  class of 74.

Mr Crawford was a wonderful person.  I was saddened to hear of his passing.  He ran Ballard with a firm hand but all the students loved him.

Mr. Crawford  was always kind and somehow the simplest of punishments like picking up trash near the "science pond" was enough to set me straight. Never mean, always matter of fact and well intentioned he was destined to lead all those kids and his teaching staff. He did have a warm, genuine smile.

at Dunn Ele. School and a Ballard graduate of 1983.
They had the greatest affection and respect for Suzanne and Pat and as a family we are grateful
for the Crawford family in our lives.

Pat and I were played football together on the 1950 
Glouster (Ohio) team.He was the left guard. I was the center. That was when pulling guards was a new tactic Pat was very good at it. He made all league and went .on to have a brilliant career at Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College and later in education.  We Buckeyes still claim Pat as on of our shinning stars. RIP Pat.

I'm so sorry for your loss.  I've always thought a lot of Pat and his family through the years.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My deepest sympathies to Mr. Crawford's family.  I am a 1968 graduate of Westport High School. Mr. Crawford was our assistant principal and was in charge of what I would call discipline.  Fortunately, we did not spend a lot of time together.  I do recall one incident that happened just after school.  Mr. Crawford was standing at the entrance to Westport when he heard some yelling and undoubtedly thought it was a possible altercation in front of the gym.  He ran to intervene- I never imagined that he was so fast.  We had the greatest respect for him.  He later took the position as Ballard's first principal.  This was a difficult job with high expectations and he exceeded those expectations by establishing Ballard as one of the best schools in the state. He will be missed.

What a great person who exemplified what an educator should be.  Both my children,  Tracey  and Stuart transferred from other schools, and Pat Crawford made the transitions easy for them.  He was always available to speak with parents and was such a caring man.  I remember how touched I was to see him standing under an umbrella in pouring rain, wishing Good Luck to each student taking the ACT.  We were all blessed to have known him.

Pat Crawford was Pricipal throughout my middle, junior and high school years at Ballard. He might have known me only because of a single stupid stunt I tried to pull off early in 7th grade (my putting some full milk cartons under the tires of a school bus just to see what would happen), and he gave me a good talking to right on the sidewalk because of it -- but still, ever after that he always greeted me with a big fat smile and said something nice or asked me how I was doing or wondered how things were going -- What an outstanding guy!!!! Sometimes I think he himself wondered how big a splash those milk cartons would have made!!!!!!

Come to think of it, I attended at Ballard longer than most -- see, for my final grade-school year at Wilder Elementary they simply ran out of classrooms for all of us and so 2 or 3 6th-grade classes walked every morning up to Ballard HS. I probably didn't know who Pat Crawford was at that pont in my life, but looking back, I do like the fact that I spent 7 long years under his watch, so to speak.

   Our thoughts are with your family as we all mourn the passing of such a special individual.  Please know that Mr. Crawford leaves behind a countless number of us, whose lives he touched  and helped to mold as our mentor and friend. We will never forget his firm yet loving hand. Pat Crawford was an outstanding leader in education and a wonderfully kind man.  As a teacher among his staff of extraordinary educators we have had the opportunity to touch and shape the lives of so many young people who have already contributed so much to our society.  Pat will never be forgotten by his family, friends, co-educators, past students and all whose life he touched throughout his time here on earth.  May he rest in peace and God Bless Suzanne, Jennifer and all his family as they gather strength to recover from the loss of their loved one.

Mr. Crawford was the principal at Ballard the years I attended, graduating class of 1981. He was a strong leader who really cared about all the students and the reputation of the school and he had such a delightful sense of humor a great smile.   Fond memories from those high school days. I am so sorry for your loss. I was a member of the 1974 Graduating Class, the first class to go 6 years at Ballard. I also had the pleasure of being his Physician for several years.  He was a great Man, an excellent Teacher and a Friend.

Mr Crawford was there through all my High School years, 1st graduating class 1972 at Ballard!  He was fair and a kind Principal.  If you got paddled, well  you probably deserved it! My condolences to his wife and family...he was a good man and will be greatly missed by many of us.

As a member of the BHS Class of '76, I remember Mr. Crawford with gratitude. Forty years later, I can acknowledge that while I didn't always like him, I always respected him. As a member of the class of '76 I am saddened by the passing of Mr. Crawford. He was such a presence as our principal at Ballard, he was Mr. BHS! My heart felt condolences to all his family.

I was always a tad bit intimidated by this man until I had the opportunity to actually sit down across from him in the Principal's office for some minor protest on my part to conform to the way things were suppose to be done.  It turned out that he was a quite jovial, kind and interested listener.  He seemed to get kids our age.  I was in the first graduating class at Ballard and I am proud to be a part of its history and I am grateful to have had this gentle man in the movie of my life.  Bless his friends and family with love and strength.  Rest in Peace Mr. Crawford, God knows you deserve it!
