Dr. France's classes were always enjoyable and organized.  More memorable however, was his approachability and charisma.  He was never critical, and questions were never silly.  I am saddened to hear of his passing and will keep his family and friends in my thoughts.

I was a student in the Physics department at U of L in the early 90's. I was lucky to have Prof France for Classical Mechanics using the textbook by Goldstein. Learning the subject was an epiphany that physics could be so beautiful and elegant. Prof France did a wonderful job as a tour guide through Classical Mechanics. It was clear that he put a lot of effort into the instructional material he presented to us on the board. He demonstrated a sincere concern that the students understood the material, and his relaxed easygoing personality made the class even more enjoyable. During my time in the Physics department, Prof France and his fellow Wayne State graduate Joseph Chalmers were in my opinion the best teachers in the department. At least their teaching style meshed very well with my personality. I'll always have a fond memory of Peter France.

Peter took me under his wing when I arrived, and really taught me how to teach.  He was always ready for a chat when I needed a break, and we encouraged each other through our health problems.  His wisdom will live on as I pass it on to students and colleagues.  I will keep him and the family in my thoughts and prayers.

Peter France was a valued member of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UofL.  His contributions to the mission of the department, particularly in the area of teaching will be sorely missed.  On a personal note, I will miss our frequent conversations on topics from the state of the world to department politics.  Peter was very much the respected elder statesman of the department.  It's hard to come to terms with his passing.

My deepest condolences to Dr. France's families. His children, stepchildren, grandchildren and students will all retain memories and those memories, will keep him alive in your hearts. When my dad passed, a priest told me, that your last breath on earth, is your first breath with God. That comment brought me comfort in that very sad moment. I hope it will do the same for all who read it. RIP Dr. France.

Peter was many things to me throughout my life: friend, colleague, teacher, mentor, guide, protector. I spent much of my childhood rampaging through his home. He was like a second dad to me. He taught me many things about life. He provided sanctuary when I needed it most. Many years later I was given an opportunity to work with him at the university. I spent my lunch breaks chatting about life, current events, and times past. I am glad I was able to give back a little when he needed someone to talk to about the cruelties of life. I believe he had to endure more than any man should, and he did it with integrity. I can count on two hands the number of people I consider playing a pivotal role in my life and having a positive impact. He is among them. The life that comes from his teachings, his wit, his memories... this I will keep and let guide me.

Very sorry to hear of Dr. France's passing.  I remember fondly our many conversations on a wide variety of topics and his hearty laugh!

Dr. France was a very special person. He was a very good teacher and will be missed.

Peter France was one of my professors at UofL many years ago.  I recall with gratitude his enthusiasm for physics, his interest in the progress of his students, and his ever cheerful demeanor.  My condolences to his family, friends, and the UofL community.

Peter was married to my friend, Norma. He was just a very intelligent, wise, talented man with a great sense of humor. He loved teaching,his students and a good conversation. Goodbye Peter.I am glad I knew you. My sympathy to the family.

I am so very saddened to hear of Peter's passing. He will always hold a very special place in my heart for his love and committment to my mother, Norma France.  He was my step-father but more than that...He was a special member of our family and he will be very greatly missed. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his children.

Professor France will be remembered fondly by all of us in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at UofL, and by the generations of students whose lives he touched.  He will be remembered for always teaching more courses than he had to and for serving on more committees than can be recounted, and for having an anecdote to fit any situation.  He will be missed.

Dr. France was a wonderful professor that really enjoyed the classes that he taught and was always there for us as graduate students to help question our questions to get us aimed in the right direction.  He will be greatly missed.
