Phyllis Rae Rich, age 88, went to her heavenly home to be with the Lord on September 5, 2025. She lived out much of her final months sitting on the porch of “her mansion,” surrounded by family and the serene beauty of Quincy, KY.
Born on June 21, 1937, Phyllis showed kindness and love to everyone she met. Her passion was taking care of people that were less fortunate than herself; she spent four decades working in nursing rehabilitation centers (most notably, Georgetown Rehabilitation Center in Louisville, KY & Wesley Ridge in Reynoldsburg, OH). She cared for her patients as if they were family, always putting in the extra effort to provide not only the essentials, but also gifts such as perfume, cookies, and other sweet treats for those who had no one to visit them. Her patients were never truly alone because they had Phyllis.
Even on her days off, Phyllis would set up little parties in her patients’ rooms to brighten their day. She would visit them with her grandchildren, bringing smiles to their faces and laughter. Sometimes, her late husband Ray would even go to the centers to perform magic shows for the patients and their families. Phyllis brought a lot of love and compassion wherever she went, ensuring that everyone felt wanted and special, like they truly mattered.
Phyllis was also a wonderful mother and Mamaw. She loved her family, her friends, her church, and perhaps most importantly, her faith. Her devotion to God and His Word was why all who came to visit never left empty-handed, she always had to give you something every time you came.
She loved helping people.
So many stories and memories that we all have from childhood times, neighborhood kids and all the nieces and nephews, from just telling stories, playing in tree houses, making homemade ice cream, the boys riding horses to the apple orchard, playing softball in the fields or just playing on the hillside or in the creeks. What a lovely childhood we had as Phyllis (Mom) always stood by to make sure we were safe and cared for.
Truly one of kind, God only made one of you and you will be missed dearly.
