He and his identical twin Ralph, were born on August 23, 1937 to the late Mae and Ralph Gunter.
Bob graduated from Atherton High School in 1955, attended the University of Kentucky-where he was a member of Sigma Nu and went on to graduate from the University of Louisville.
He had multiple careers during his life, from an Italian Restaurant owner in downtown Louisville, to Systems Analyst for L&N Railroad, and finally retiring after 27 years as a Stockbroker with Hilliard Lyons.
Bob remained active throughout his life. He was an avid reader of Military History, loved to gourmet cook, travelled to Europe multiple times, enjoyed flight simulation, You-tubing, UK sports, and he thoroughly enjoyed captaining his houseboat the “Linda Lou” on the Ohio River in the early 90’s.
Besides his immense love for his family, his greatest lifelong passion was his love for model railroading that spanned more than 60 years. His extensive, built by hand “world class” HO scale model of the L&N Railroad of the Louisville area-consumed the entire large basement of the family home of 50 years in Brownsboro Farm.
Bob was a 50-year member of Christ Church United Methodist and served as an usher, an administrative board member, and even showed off his culinary skills by operating the “Sweets & Treats” church café on Sunday mornings.
Bob leaves behind many cherished memories with his loving wife of 65 years Linda Lou Thompson Gunter, a son Bob Gunter, 2 daughters: Lisa Lewis (John), Laura Keeling (Mike), 4 grandchildren: Jenna Spalding (Paul), Austin Lewis (Ryann Schuessler), Tate Edwards, Ryan Keeling (Lillian) and 3 special nieces: Kim Rapp, Sherry Riddell, and Debbie Suell.
