Born February 10, 1927, Robert graduated from Ahrens Trade School and promptly joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon return from naval service, he worked as a linotype machinist until retirement. As a devoted member of Louisville First Seventh-day Adventist Church, he held various responsibilities over more than 30 years including deacon, elder, head elder, choir director, and Sabbath School teacher. A favorite Bible verse that was evident in his life was 1 Thessalonians 4:11: “that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you.”
With his cherished wife, Louise, Robert co-owned “The Chocolate Drop” candy shop. Every holiday season, they created and sold a variety of handmade chocolate candies to gift stores, customers, friends, and family. At Christmas and Easter, they added a special touch by hand “painting” Santas, ducks, and rabbits with colored white chocolate to bring out special features.
Married to Louise for nearly 72 years, they had one daughter, Karen. Robert was preceded in death by his wife Louise; daughter Karen Lynne Parrish (Dennis); mother Lydia Klosterman; and father Millard F. Hall. He is survived by his “bonus son and daughter,” Robert (“Bob Jr.”) and Sheila Burnette, as well as distant nieces and nephews. He had many dear friends at church and Traditions Assisted Living Center—particularly his best friend, David, Dee the best CNA in the world, Activities Director LaCosta, and all the staff, whose kindness he greatly appreciated.
Robert had a lifelong hobby building and flying remote-control airplanes. As a Louisville Radio Control Club member, he always looked forward to their annual “Numb Thumb” flying event.
Robert’s loyal, faithful, and hardworking spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
