He was born in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Sherman and Ruby Jeffries on April 13, 1939. Jeff proudly served his country in the US Navy and was a member of Amvets Post #61. For 40+ years he was very active in the Boy Scouts of America, Lincoln Heritage Council and Order of the Arrow. He loved being on the Eagle board, helping with scout projects, camping, and was especially proud of his Silver Beaver award. He cherished his time with the scouts and the friends he made. Jeff was also very involved as a volunteer for the WHAS Crusade for Children, cooking breakfast for the firemen at the Highview Firehouse. Jeff also loved cars, especially stock racing cars. He was good at building them...but not so good at driving them!! He would never call himself a mechanic, but many people came to him for advice and help on their car engine.
Jeff worked at Don's Auto Parts and then had a store, McNeely Lake Auto Parts, for many years. He also made contact lenses at Southern Contact Lenses (SCL), American Consolidated Laboratories, and Diversified Opthalmics.
Jeff was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Sue Jeffries; son, Anthony Scott Jeffries; great grandson, Cody Lawrence Segraves; siblings, Russel, Aubrey, William Jeffries, and Helen Anderson.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Rene Peters (Doug), Chris Jeffries, Ryan Jeffries (Stephanie); grandchildren, Megan Segraves (Chris), Andrew Peters, Bethany Peters, Ethan, Cooper, and Ella Jeffries; great-grandchildren, Conner, Sarah, Leah, Caleb, Caden, Carter, Heather, Collin Segraves; sister, Yvonne Bain; sisters-in-law Sheila Jeffries, Waty Jeffries, Jan Carroll, many loved and cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; many extended family members, dear friends and neighbors.
Jeff’s family wishes to say a special thank you to Jeff’s wonderful caregiver, Angie.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hosparus of Louisville, WHAS Crusade for Children or Boy Scouts of America.
