November 23, 1950 – December 22, 2024
Our hearts are heavy, yet so full of love, as we say goodbye to our incredible mother, Ruth Young, who passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024. Mom was so much more than the roles she filled as a daughter, niece, wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, niece, and friend—she was the heart of our family and the embodiment of grace, strength, and kindness.
Born to LeRoy and Margaret Eldridge (Plyman), Mom grew up in Louisville, KY, and graduated from Ahrens Trade High School. She later became a talented Platt Artist at Bell South, where her creativity and precision shone brightly. Beyond her career, she married twice, first to our father, Michael Haycraft, and later to Lewis Young, creating a life full of love and treasured memories with both.
Mom had an incredible passion for the beauty of the natural world. She found peace and joy in gardening, becoming an active member of the Glasgow Garden Club, and loved watching birds flit around her yard. She took that same nurturing spirit and poured it into mentoring dozens of girls as a Girl Scout leader, leaving an indelible mark on so many young lives.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Mom was deeply devoted to Bible study at Glasgow Baptist Church and cherished her involvement with the Newcomers Club in Louisville, where she met her second husband, our second dad, Lew Young. After moving to Glasgow, she remained an integral part of that community, always making connections and spreading her warmth.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Michael Haycraft (who passed away earlier this year on July 4), and her second husband, Lewis Young.Mom is survived by us, her daughters, Michelle Davidson (Chris) and Shari McPeek (Chris); her stepdaughter, Julie Young; her grandchildren, Michael "Cliff" Haycraft (Danielle), Tyler Davidson, Gavin Davidson, and CJ Davidson; her step-grandchildren, David, John and Christopher; and her great-grandchildren, Leonel Haycraft, and Peytyn Crider-Davidson.
We will honor Mom and Dad together with a dual celebration of life at Rest Haven Funeral Home on January 24th, 2025, followed by a private interment.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BRAWA (Spay/Neuter) or River Valley Crawford County Humane Society, organizations close to Mom's heart.
Finally, from the bottom of our hearts, we want to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at TJ Sampson (Oncology, Radiation, Physical and Occupational Therapy, and Pain Management), Dr. Thornberry and his team, and the staff at The Springs at Stoneybrook. Your care, kindness, and love were an immeasurable blessing to Mom and to our family. Thank you for walking alongside us during this journey.
We love you endlessly, Mom, and we will carry your light with us always.
