S. Litten Brown, Jr., 92, died Monday, May 30, 2016 at Treyton Oak Towers. He was born January 15, 1924 in Hammond, Indiana to the late Sylvester and Ada Lynette Brown. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Donald. He was a graduate of DuPont Manual High School and of the University of Louisville Speed Scientific School. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and of Theta Tau Fraternity. He retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers as Chief of Technical Control with 26 years of service. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII and was present when they raised the flag at Iwo Jima. He was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament where he served as Scout Master of Troop 259 for many years, a lector, Eucharistic minister, Rosary leader, money counter, a member of the Men’s Club, finance committee, and parish counsel. He was also involved in square and round dancing for 36 years, member of NARFE Chapter 1756 and enjoyed traveling with his wife in their trailer and spending winters in Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Mary Virginia “Ginny” Stevens; sons, Thomas (Nancy), Kenneth, Dr. Paul (Joyce), and Raymond (Leslie); daughter, Gail Albright (Dr. Gregory); 11 grandchildren, Sherri McKeen, Mark Brown, Kristin Gulley, Erin Wiedmar, Meredith Wilson, Morghan, Samantha, Natalie, Hannah, Olivia Brown, and Benjamin Albright; 7 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday with a Rosary Service at 3:00 pm at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home. His Funeral Liturgy will be 10:00 am Friday at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3509 Taylor Blvd., with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the church.
