Born on August 11, 1936 in Louisville, Kentucky to parents’ Noah Duke & Anna Belle Poynter. Shirley was a graduate of the Class of 1954 of the MALE High School. She was one of 8 female graduates of the first Co-ed class at MALE. She was also a faithful attendee of the annual MALE Class Reunions. She was a former employee of General Electric, where she was instrumental in helping to establish the G.E. International Sales Office. In her role with G.E., she was very knowledgeable with sales, where she promoted products to Middle Eastern countries. A military spouse, Shirley traveled abroad with her husband, Floyd, to different stations and duty assignments. She was a member of the Red Hat Society – Louisville Sweethearts Chapter. She was a certified realtor, broker and owner – operator of Hearth & Home Realty for over 15 years. She worked closely & well with different builders & developers throughout the area. Shirley was a fabulous dancer and a tremendous cook. She was a gracious host, hosting parties and get-togethers over the years. With Floyds’, duty station in Germany, Shirley was the secretary / treasurer of the Officers’ Wives Club. Shirley loved to travel, traveling to several timeshare locations including Myrtle Beach and North Daytona Beach and taking cruises to the Western Caribbean. She loved people. Shirley lived a full life, a life well lived.
Besides her parents’, Noah & Anna Belle Duke; son, Steven Gerald; & brother, Eugene Thomas Duke, precede Shirley in her passing.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Floyd Larry; daughter, Lisa (Joe) Brown; grandsons, Steven Thomas (Ashley) Brown; & great – granddaughter, Emilia Jade Brown; plus, a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. in the Dignity Chapel of the Evergreen Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 13, 2022 also at the Evergreen Funeral Home. Burial will be private in the Garden of Sanctuary Birds of the Evergreen Cemetery & Garden Mausoleums.
