Shirley B. Taliaferro

Shirley was born in Louisville, KY. She was the oldest of 5 children. She graduated from Valley High School. She began working as a teller at First National bank, and she worked her way up the Ladder. After 35 plus years of service, she retired as a VP of Finance. While working full time, she also attended night classes at the University of Louisville, and she received her Bachelor’s Degree.

She married the love of her life at age 19, and for 67 1/2 years the two were inseparable. They enjoyed traveling the world together. She was a devoted mother to her 2 sons. She adored her 4 grandchildren and her great grandson. It didn’t matter if it was at the lake, in Hawaii, or in her home, she was happiest when surrounded by her family.

She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Louisville and enjoyed teaching Sunday school. She also loved spending her time doing missionary work in several different countries around the world for the Southern Baptist Convention.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 67 1/2 years, Jim Taliaferro, her parents, James and Levenia Bogard, her siblings, Mary Catherine Ashby and spouse Larry, Jim Bogard and Debbie Lutterman.

She is survived by her sons Carr Taliaferro and spouse Bettina, and Mark Taliaferro and spouse Diane. Her brother, Alan Bogard and spouse Vicki, sister-in-law, Darlene Bogard, sister-in-law, Darleen Taliaferro, brother-in-law, Bob Taliaferro and spouse Lenora, grandchildren, Joshua, Abigail, Christian, Branden and her great grandchild, Joseph.

Guests are invited to attend a visitation from 4-8 pm on Thursday June 26th at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY 40218. A funeral service will take place at 10 am on Friday June 27th at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 5708 Preston Highway, Louisville KY 40219. Entombment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum.
