The Flatt family moved to Louisville when Stanley was a teenager. There he met the love of his life, Marie Price, in 1953 and they married on December 24, 1955.
JR, as he was affectionately known to many, was drafted into the United States Army in 1959 and served in the Korean War.
JR worked at American Air Filter for over 20 years and at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center for 11 years before retiring.
JR was a devoted family member and friend who was loved by all and brought a special lightheartedness to everything he did. If anyone was in need, JR would be there. He was a friend to all: an honorary grandpa to the neighborhood kids, feeding the squirrels and chickens and a myriad of animals that found their way to his door. He was also an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan known for his colorful language and antics during the games.
JR is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, seven sisters and several dogs including Buster, Skipper and Tipper. He is survived by his loving wife Marie, his son Stanley Flatt III (Donna); daughters Gina Webb (Vernal) and Susie Licht (Karl); three grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 12:00 pm Thursday at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home, 3601 Taylor Blvd, Louisville, KY 40215 with entombment to follow at the Bethany Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm Wednesday and after 10am Thursday at the funeral home.
