Wanda Stewart Moore

Wanda, the oldest child of Earby and Margaret Stewart, was born September 9, 1941, in Birmingham, Kentucky. After graduating from Paducah Tilghman High School, she began her college education at what was then Paducah Junior College where she met the love of her life, Doug Moore. She then went to Western Kentucky University while Doug stayed in Paducah, writing him letters almost daily. The two then attended the University of Kentucky together, until she graduated with her degree in education. Doug and Wanda were married on August 16, 1963, moved to Louisville, and Wanda began her teaching career at Louisville Eastern High School. But West Kentucky was home, and they moved back to Paducah in 1966 where Wanda taught at Lone Oak High School until the birth of their oldest son.

Wanda was an active member of Paducah Woman’s Club and the Kentucky Federation of Women’s Clubs, serving in numerous leadership roles in those organizations. She was also a long-time member of Reidland United Methodist Church and spent many years teaching a youth Sunday School class. Wanda loved to watch UK sports, and she and Doug travelled frequently following their beloved Cats including four trips to see them in the Final Four. But her most cherished role in life was being a mom and a Gran. Though her final years were clouded with dementia, Wanda had a sparkle that never dimmed. She will be incredibly missed.

In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Doug, her sister, Debbie, and her brother-in-law, Joe Brittain. Surviving, to keep her spark alive are her two sons, Brian (Amy) and Jason (Tara), her five grandchildren, Chase, Hunter (Kelly), Ava, Jack and Kate, her sister, Anita Brittain, her brother, Kennard (Kenny) Stewart, her brother-in-law, Jeff Moore, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Wanda’s life will held be at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home, 7410 Westport Road, Louisville, KY 40222 on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 4:00 pm, with visitation beginning at 2:00 pm until the service.
