William Kayrouz

Bill was born and raised in Louisville. He is a member of St. Ignatius Church. Graduated from Bishop David High School in 1966 and then volunteered to join the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Vietnam War. During that time he received many awards which included some of the following: 2 Purple Hearts, Vietnam Service Metal w/2 Bronze Service Stars, Bronze Star w/V Device and Sharpshooter [Rifle]. He completed his 20 years of service with the U.S. Air Force at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas and a tour of duty in England. Awards during this time included some of the following: Air Force Overseas Long Term Ribbon, Air Force NCO PME Graduate Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon and Air Force Training Ribbon. As he was called upon by his country he traveled to many parts of the world to apply his talents in combat training and field tactics. Bill loved the men he served with and trained. “Wild Bill” was the life of the party. He was a gifted historian and if you had a question he had an answer. He was blessed by many family and friends and will be missed greatly!

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Akel and Selma Kayrouz; and his parents, Anthony and Irene.

He is survived by his wife Cathy; his children, Jay of Clarksville, TN, Jennifer [Vaughn] of Charleston, WV, and Amber [Andy] of Beckley, WV; and 4 grandchildren, Alex, Katy, Tim of Portland, OR and Claudia of Charleston, WV.

Special thanks to the excellent treatment and care given by the doctors, nurses and techs at the VA Oncology Unit, J. Graham Brown Cancer Center and U of L: 6 East BMT Unit.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2 – 8 p.m. at Arch L. Heady & Son, 7410 Westport Road / Herr Lane. The funeral will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday at St. Ignatius Church, 1816 Rangeland Road.

Memorial gifts to honor Bill’s courageous battle with Leukemia can be designated to the J. Graham Brown Cancer Center or the St. Ignatius Building Fund.
