

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane Rickert Motsch; daughter Cynthia Motsch Bragg; sister Joan Motsch Salkeld; step-son Christopher Lee Rogers.
He is survived by his wife, Diana M. Motsch; three children, Sandra M. Smiddy (Wayne), William A. Motsch Jr. (Shawna), and Dr. Christine M. Motsch; grandchild Jennifer Morgan; step-daughter Dena Rogers; step-grandchildren Elizabeth Ramirez (Ricky) and Matthew Greer.
Bill was born in Louisville to Elizabeth Huelsman Motsch and William P. Motsch. He attended Our Lady's Grade School and Flaget High School. Bill carried through life a great fondness and appreciation for the good nuns at Our Lady's, brothers at Flaget, and priests whose dedication and caring nurtured those formative years. He was a graduate from the University of Louisville, where he received a B.S. degree in accounting.
He was an army veteran and served during the Korean War.
Bill's professional career included a tour with Ernst & Ernst, CPA's, Vice President and Controller of Commonwealth Life Insurance Company (1959-1966) and as Partner or Principal in his own CPA Firms (1966-2000). During his career, he also served as Executive Director of the Kentucky Colonels Professional Basketball Team in the former American Basketball Association.
Bill was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Kentucky Society of CPA's, American Institute of CPA's, Wildwood Country Club, and a former member of the Pendennis Club.
Visitation will be 3:00 - 8:00 PM on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 4, 2025, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 2042 Buechel Bank Rd, with entombment to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
