

William “Bill” Addison Smith, 77, a Louisville native and resident of Prospect, Kentucky passed away on December 27, 2025, in his home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He also lived in Jacksonville, Florida and Severna Park, Maryland. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and was also a Mason.
He attended Kentucky Southern College and graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later earned a Master of Business Administration from the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore, Maryland.
Early in his professional career, he taught at St. Thomas More Catholic School and Trinity High School in Louisville, Kentucky. Following his teaching experience, he began a lengthy career in the transportation industry with a focus in sales and marketing which included CSX Transportation, American Commercial Barge Line, Cincinnati Bulk Terminal, and the Port of Louisville.
Bill was preceded in death by his son (Bret Addison Smith) and his parents, Eulis H. and Edna G. (Spencer) Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Mahoney Smith; daughter, Whitney Smith Jordan (Chas) of Lexington, KY; grandson, Conner A. Smith of Louisville; granddaughter, Tate Jordan of Lexington; grandson, Graham Jordan of Lexington; his sister, Kathy Smith Anderson of Louisville; brother-in-law, James E. Mahoney of Louisville; sister-in-law, Sue A. Maum of Prospect; cousin, David L. McCoy.
Visitation will be at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd. from 4-8pm on Friday, January 2nd and from 11am-1pm on Saturday, January 3rd, with the funeral service to follow at 1pm. Burial will be at Cave Hill Cemetery.
Memorial expressions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hosparus Health.
