TASSIE, REV. WILLIS H., 93, of Louisville, went home to be with his heavenly father on the evening of August 25, 2013. He was a native of Montreal, Canada, and attended Wayne State University, where he met his loving wife of 71 years, Roberta Clifton Tassie. He served his country during World War II, while in Hawaii in the U.S. Army. After graduating from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity, he went on to pastor many churches in Louisville and the surrounding areas. He taught the men's Bible study group at St. Matthews Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon. Through the years, he and his wife helped start church missions in Hawaii and several states. He considered his business, building and managing homes, a part of his ministry. Rev. Tassie lived his faith through his family and helping others. He dearly loved his family but opened his heart and home to everyone who needed him. The theme throughout his whole life was love. His wife Roberta was quoted as saying, "he gave his heart and life to Jesus, that he might serve Him, until he could join God in heaven through death". Preceding him in death was his son, Mark Willis Tassie; and his parents, Elsie and Joseph Tassie. Left cherishing his memory is his loving wife, Roberta C. Tassie; son, Timothy (Carolyn) Tassie; daughters, Susan Lynch and Nancy (Jim) Elder; daughter-in-law, Dianne Tassie; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Alice Sparks. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the St. Matthews Baptist Church, 3515 Grandview Avenue, with interment in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. and again on Friday after 12 noon. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Matthews Baptist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Arch L. Heady at Resthaven. You may visit us online at www.archlheadyresthaven.com
