

Wirt “Phil” Phillips Jones, Jr., 78, of Louisville, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 5, 1934 in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Wirt Phillips Jones Sr. and Marjorie Elizabeth Young. He grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina playing music on Wrightsville and Carolina Beaches.
Phil was retired from General Electric and was a United States Army Veteran serving in the USAREUR 33rd Army Band. He was a member of Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and was a member of the church orchestra. He was an avid trumpet player, a member of Nu-Tones Dance Band, Wednesday Night Rehearsal Band and a 55 year member of Louisville Federation of Musicians Local 11-637. Phil played with Larry Biziannes Combo, Keith Stonecipher Orchestra as well as many other small groups.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Jones; two daughters, Cynthia Jones Alvey (Matt) and Jennifer Jones Howard (Kevin); four well loved grandchildren, Meredith Alvey, Matthew Alvey, Sydney Howard and Cole Howard; a sister, Patty Stonecipher Head (Tom); a brother, Robert Jones (Eleanor); numerous nieces and nephews as well as three special canine friends, Corki, Zippy and Dodger.
A celebration of his life will be conducted Monday at 3pm at Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church, 311 Browns Lane with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-8 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road and Monday from 1:30 until time of service at the church.
The family request expressions of sympathy be made to the music program at Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church.
