It is with peace, love, and sadness the Lake, Martinek and Unrein families announce the passing of husband, father, step-father, grandfather, step-grandfather, and great-grandfather, brother, Andrew Lawrence Lake, on March 7, 2023.
Andy, or “Butch” as he is known on his side of the family, was born in Inglewood, California on June 7, 1940, to Rulon Charles Lake and Genevieve Adeline (Wynn) Lake. His family lived in many different places over the years including El Segundo, California, Rexburg, Idaho, Woods Cross, Utah, and Grand Junction, Colorado. Andy graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1959, and went on to earn a history degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 1965.
His career ventures were creative and varied over the years including high school social studies teacher, sales representative for the Standard Oil company in Montana, Alaskan Camper franchise owner in Fort Lupton, Colorado, oil and gas survey company owner, hunting guide and outfitter in Meeker, Colorado, and owning a successful medical paralegal firm with Beverly.
Andy’s deep love of the outdoors was a constant theme throughout his life; camping, fishing, or hunting, he was always content outside in the fresh mountain air. He also spent countless hours in his beloved Loveland wood shop creating fly rods, toy chests, cutting boards, chapel pews etc., for family, his church community, and friends. Andy was an avid reader and very tuned into current events, always with insightful perspectives. His greatest joy above all was simple time with family.
Andy and Beverly shared a loving bond filled with much laughter in their years together; from camping adventures, church activities, and running their business, they have been side by side in an amazing partnership. Their families admire the devotion they had for each other.
Andy is preceded in death by his parents, and first wife and mother of his children, Janet Schloo-Lake.
Andy is survived by his loving wife Beverly, daughter Tina Lake (Bill Sloan), son Spencer Lake (Patti), step-son Dustin Martinek (Robin), step-grandchildren Madison Martinek and Davis Martinek, grandsons Justin Unrein (Danielle), Terrance Unrein (Laura), his much-loved great-grandchildren Aiden and Claire Unrein, sister Linda Boyce (Don), brother Don Lake, his nephews who knew him as “Uncle Butch”, sister-in-laws, Carolyn Davis-Sage (Tom), and Carol Schloo-Wright (Ken).
