My daddy was a kind, generous, quiet and funny man. He loved my brother Sam and I and we loved him. We have the greatest memories from when we were little to adults!
When we were younger his brother Ted and daddy lived together in a small house in Sarasota. When we would come for the summers, the four of us would go to Siesta Key and play on the beach. One memory I have that always sticks out is, I would sit on my daddy’s shoulder and he would wade out into the water, I would say “ go deeper!” And he would laugh at me because the water was at his neck and he would say “ I can’t go any further” and he would laugh his belly laugh...
We loved watching James Bond movies together as well as documentaries on Elvis Presley but my favorite was watching Jaws movies! I will never forget our times watching him and Ted play darts in the living room, but above all him teaching me to drive a stick shift with his pick up truck! He was so calm even when I stalled at heavy traffic lights..
My brother and I had a special bond with our daddy and we have thousands of memories that we can reflect on. We only wish he could’ve been a bigger part of his grandkids lives and our lives! We love you forever daddy..

Wayne was like many of his recipes - full of hidden spices.  Like many “quiet” people, once you started talking with Wayne there was a full conversation just waiting under his quiet surface, and it always left you feel glad for the conversation.  So many places he’d been, worked, served, and his passionate perspective on shared interests – except for the raisins in the apple pie.  Just apples please.  Wayne nurtured a feeling of community wherever he went.  When Wayne would ask someone how they were doing it was because he cared, he really wanted to know.  I’ll miss you Wayne.  I can’t wait to hear your stories on the other side.

We were also at University Hospital on Monday May 20.. just 1 floor above.  Our son had a 5 1/2 hour heart procedure, we think it went fine, will know more when he returns Tuesday.  The point is, we knew what was happening that day below us.. so torn with emotions.  One of hope for good results, one with grief knowing what was going to happen.  We needed to stretch our legs, went down to the cafeteria, and the first thing we see is the coffee bar with Danishes all across the front display, a reminder of Wayne and his mastery of baking.  

Joyce and Wayne sit in front of us at church.  I have seen him there alone while Joyce was away.. but I don't remember seeing Joyce there without him.  I dread it.  Such a caring, thoughtful couple genuine in their faith and love for others.  They have inspired us to try and be better Christians in this world.

Love you both, and thank you always for the ripple you have made in our lives.

Wayne was such a gentle person.  Almost every Sunday at church, he asked me how my mom was doing.  Then he actually stood there and listened to my much too long response.  His genuine interest in her was a good reminder to me that I had better check more often to see how she was doing.  

Wayne had a very quiet and dry sense of humor.  A couple of months ago, I had my arms full carrying in food for a church potluck.  He looked and me and asked, "Got a light?"  Ha!  

Wayne and Joyce went to breakfast with me recently at a soft opening of the new First Watch in Loveland.  Wayne explained to me about his First Watch days in the Navy and what First Watch meant.  

Thank you, Wayne, for your service to our country, your concern for my mom and for making me laugh.  I'll miss you.
