He devoted his life to his family, veterinary medicine, close friends, and sports throughout various communities in Colorado.
With a deep love for animals and ranch life, Charlie became a trusted and respected veterinarian whose work left a lasting impact on both people and animals. He was known not only for his clinical expertise, but also for the compassionate and thoughtful way he approached his work. His dedication, storytelling, and generous nature made him well-liked and deeply appreciated by many.
A proud 1967 graduate of Colorado State University, where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, Charlie began his veterinary career in Durango, Colorado. He later moved to the Littleton Large Animal Clinic before returning home to Monte Vista, Colorado. In 1996, after selling his practice, he took time to travel before working in Lincoln, Nebraska, with Pfizer Animal Health and Dr. Tom Thurber on a research project.
Following the completion of that project, Charlie returned to Colorado and took on various contract roles. These included serving as a Field Veterinarian for the Colorado Department of Agriculture under State Veterinarian Dr. Keith Roehr. He also worked as a Coordinator at the CSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences with Dr. Barb Powers. Charlie mentored veterinary students, gave talks to interested groups, and coordinated collaborative efforts for large animal herd health.
His leadership and service extended beyond clinical work. He served eight years on the State Board of Veterinary Medicine and four years on the Freshman Selection Committee for veterinary students at CSU.
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Davis; his son, Boyd Davis (Victoria); and his son-in-law, Ray Pribble. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maureen Pribble, in October 2024. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Dalton Pribble, Kohlton Pribble, Jackson Davis, and Simmi Davis. He is also survived by his sister, Harriet DeFreece (Bob).
