He was born to Floyd Stoltzfus and Pat Powers on September 1, 1950 in Corry, Pennsylvania. Galen later moved to Denver, Colorado. He graduated from Alameda High School in Lakewood in 1969. He worked as a talented craftsman in the construction industry and owned and operated his own woodworking shop and store front in Loveland.
He married Mary Lou, the love of his life, in 1974, who survives him. Galen is also survived by son Jason Stoltzfus of Ft. Collins, daughter Jill (Tony) Spadafora of Loveland, son Matt (Rebecca) Stoltzfus of Aurora. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Kaleb and Delia Spadafora and Emma and Dylan Stoltzfus. Brother Jim Stoltzfus of Craig, CO and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.
Galen was preceded in death by his father Floyd Stoltzfus and his mother Pat Powers.
Galen was known for his fine woodworking skills, his honesty, integrity and love of family. He was a man of few words. One of his favorite quotes was “Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.” Galen’s practicality, calm and steady presence and dry sense of humor will be missed immensely.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 8th at 10:00 a.m. at Sweetheart Winery in Loveland, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Walk to End Alzheimer’s in honor of Galen’s sister-in-law. Donations can be made online by visiting https://act.alz.org/site/TR?fr_id=13268&pg=personal&px=16395987 Mail in option is also available.
