Gary Eugene Hackleman, 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Loveland, Colorado after a long with battle with his illnesses. Born on December 26, 1944, in Greeley, Colorado, Gary was the beloved son of the late James Everette Hackleman and Marjorie Emma Simpson.
Gary was born and raised in Greeley before moving to Riverton, where he spent much of his youth. At just 12 years old, he proudly competed in the Baseball Youth World Series, earning 2nd place. He later graduated from Riverton High School and went on to build a hardworking and successful career. Gary worked as an agent for Farmer’s Life Insurance, a real estate agent for Continental West and RE/MAX, and later with the City of Loveland, and Mariana Butte Golf Course.
On October 2, 1983, Gary met the love of his life, Marie Bower. Together they shared 43 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and companionship. In 1986, Gary and Marie owned and operated the Duke of Windsor.
Gary had a deep love for life’s simple joys. He cherished his dogs, Kohlie and Hogan, enjoyed cheering on the Broncos and Nuggets, and loved fishing, skiing, and golfing — especially golfing. Summer was his favorite season, as it meant more time outdoors and more opportunities to spend time with those he loved most. Above all else, Gary treasured his family. His grandchildren lovingly called him “Pops,” a title he wore with pride. He especially loved bragging about three of his grandchildren that played football at Loveland High School and who won first place in State in 2018. He was also a member of the Elks Club for 28 years.
Gary’s memory will be forever cherished by his long-term spouse and life partner, Marie Bower; daughters, Jania (Tommy) Lujan of Fort Collins, Paula (Tim) Jowers of Dallas, Texas, Cheryl (Donnie) of Denver, Heather of Loveland, and Julie Bower of Windsor; sons, Jeff (Soilveig) Hackleman of St. Augustine, Florida and Kevin (Jen) Bower of Loveland; 13 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; nephews, Barry, Brad, Dave, and Mark; and nieces, Peggy, Lori, Margie (Gigi), and Denise.
Alongside his parents, Gary is also preceded in death by his nephew; Lee Hackleman, his brothers Darryl Hackleman and Bruce Hackleman, and his sister Alice Eckley Hackleman.
Memorial contributions in Gary’s honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Meals on Wheels in Loveland.
Gary will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
