Ken Donald Johnson, 62, of Fort Collins, passed away November 29, 2025, after a long courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Born in Iowa, he was a son to the late Donald and Arlene Anderson Johnson.
Ken spent his early years in Pomeroy, Iowa, before the family moved to Loveland, Colorado. Throughout his life, he also lived in Windsor, Colorado, and Idaho before settling in Fort Collins. Ken graduated from Loveland High School in 1981 and continued his education at the University of Northern Colorado.
Ken was baptized at First Covenant Church in Pomeroy, Iowa, where he later returned to worship as an adult. In Colorado, he attended First Presbyterian Church and then Evangelical Covenant Church, finding community and strength in his spiritual life.
Ken loved the outdoors and found joy in fishing, biking, and going for drives. In his younger years, he was an enthusiastic athlete, participating in football, basketball, tennis, and bowling—where he especially excelled. Ken also had a natural talent for working with his hands and creating things. His many projects included building a go-kart, crafting a playhouse, constructing small furniture pieces, and one of his proudest accomplishments—finishing his own basement. A devoted sports fan, he cheered passionately for the Denver Broncos and all Colorado teams.
Throughout his life, Ken worked in a variety of fields, including at Beisner Construction in Loveland and Woodward Governor in Fort Collins, where he built lasting friendships and contributed his strong work ethic and positive spirit.
Ken will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his warm smile, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. He had a gift for humor and enjoyed joking and teasing in a way that brought joy to those around him. Even in his final days, Ken never failed to express gratitude—offering a “thank you” or a small smile whenever he could.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Brian Cundelan; niece, Brianna Cundelan and many extended family members and friends.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Mitch (Shelby) Johnson, Ashley (Kameron) Schmidt; grandchildren, Aimee and Maggie Johnson, David, Maveric, and Ellis Schmidt; sisters, Beverly Cundelan, Barbara (Michael) Greer; nieces, Kerry Greer, Bridget Cundelan; nephews, Sean (Rayann) Greer, Kevin (Cheyenne) Greer; and grand-nieces Hannah, Avery, and Piper.
Ken was blessed with many compassionate caregivers during his seven years at Poudre Canyon Health and Rehabilitation Center. The staff there showed him genuine love and attentive care—far too many to name, though he shared a special connection with his most recent caregiver, Diego. The Bristol Hospice care team, including his devoted nurse and dear friend Julie, was also a tremendous blessing to Ken and his family. During his time at Poudre Canyon, Ken formed a meaningful bond with his roommate, Don; though their conversations were few, the friendship between them remained strong and heartfelt.
