Kenneth Eugene Phillips was born on February 10, 1970, in San Antonio, Texas, to Eugene and Jean Phillips. He grew up in the Longmont area and graduated from Niwot High School in 1988. Over the years, Kenneth worked in both the restaurant and trucking industries, where he was known for his hard-working nature, humor, and kind spirit.
At the age of ten, Kenneth was introduced to his God, Jehovah, and to the hope of a peaceful paradise earth by his sister, Nancy. He often reflected on how that hope never left his heart. After moving to Loveland in 2012, he was warmly reintroduced to Bible truths, and on April 5, 2014, he symbolized his dedication to Jehovah by water baptism—one of the most meaningful days of his life.
On August 18, 2018, Kenneth married the love of his life, Shelly. Her large and loving family welcomed him with open arms. Though having such a big family was new to him, Kenneth embraced it wholeheartedly and grew to deeply love the joy and closeness it brought. He and Shelly enjoyed discovering new restaurants, taking short road trips to explore Colorado, and going to sporting events together.
Kenneth loved sports—both playing and watching. He played basketball, football, and ran track during his school years, and those remained his favorite sports throughout his life. Whether enjoying a game on TV or going to games with Shelly and friends, sports were something he genuinely enjoyed.
Kenneth also found delight in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed cooking and grocery shopping, always hunting for the best deals. His true passion, however, was the outdoors. Whether hiking with his best friend, Wes, and others, or exploring on his own, he felt at home in creation. Some of his favorite adventures included hiking Longs Peak, exploring Roxborough, conquering the Manitou Incline, trail running, and cycling. Kenneth loved the Rocky Mountains and delighted in the beauty he believed reflected Jehovah’s handiwork.
He had a deep love for music and was often seen dancing in the kitchen—bringing laughter and warmth wherever he was. Kenneth’s sense of humor, empathy, and gentle heart endeared him to many. His sister Nancy shared that he always made her laugh. He formed lifelong friendships, treasuring the people who loved and supported him over the years.
Kenneth—affectionately known as Kenny G, Ken, or KP—is survived by his devoted wife, Shelly; his sisters Nancy (Richard) and Carolyn (Keith); his nephews Tyson (Danielle) Demery & Sloane and Clinton (Jamie); and his niece Melissa (Christian). He is also lovingly remembered by Shelly’s sons—Dakotah (Kylie), Austin (Amelia), and Colton (Ryleigh)—and he was “Pepe” to Maverick, who brought him special joy.
Kenneth will be deeply missed, but those who loved him take comfort in the promise he held dear: the hope of a resurrection and life on a peaceful, restored earth, just as Jehovah has promised.
