She attended Rapid City Schools and graduated from RCHS in 1964. She was very active in the Civil Air Patrol and won several CAP awards for service and excellence.
She graduated from St. Johns McNamara School of Nursing in 1967 and successfully completed the nursing state board exam to become a registered nurse.
She worked as an RN locally before moving to Southern California and working as an emergency room nurse. In 1976 she relocated to Cheyenne, WY to be closer to family and practiced home health nursing. She was soon hired on as an occupation health nurse at Hewlett Packard in Loveland, CO. She continued occupational health and ergonomics nursing until her retirement.
LaVada loved being with friends and family, playing golf and the guitar. She also enjoyed traveling, playing cards and gambling.
She is survived by her spouse, Patricia McGuire and nieces Lorri Koenig, Lisa Kiger, Lana Wilson, Leslie Leigh and Melissa Jensen. She is also survived by ten great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will take place at Benson Sculpture Garden on Saturday June 28th from 1-4pm.
