He followed in his father's steps to work for Mountain Bell as one of the Telephone Pioneers who built the telecom network across the Western slope and rural areas of Colorado. Deane and Neva met while working for the Bell System in Florence, Colorado. They married on January 6, 1952. During the Korean Conflict, Deane served a year in Japan in the 10th Mountain Division of the United States Army. Upon returning, he resumed work, becoming a successful engineer and manager, eventually retiring from Mountain Bell. For retirement, Neva and Deane built a home in Loveland. Deane is survived by his wife Neva, sister Lynda, and children: Tamarra of Louisville, CO, Mark of Blanding, UT, Matthew of Louisville, CO. The families include 5 grandchildren: Morgan, Daniel, AmiLi, Brandon, and Tyler.
Deane shared his love of the outdoors, hiking, snowmobiling, and traveling with family and friends. His children grew up knowing and appreciating the Colorado mountains, the Wyoming backcountry, and the Utah wilderness. Deane and Neva traveled often around the West from Texas to Alaska and abroad from New Zealand and Australia to Europe, Iceland, and China.
As a gifted builder, Deane enjoyed woodworking and building furniture. Many family members have beautiful hand crafted remembrances from both Deane and Neva.
His entire life, Deane led by quiet example. When someone needed help, he came with the tow rope, the tools, the truck, and the expertise, whatever was needed. He stayed and worked until everything was fixed, and the only thing he expected in return was thanks. He built houses and filled hearts with his handiwork.
Deane has already been missed greatly since the last few years of his life were challenged by dementia.
