

Betty H. Waters Minton passed away September 8, 2012, at the age of 88 at St. Helena Hospital in Clerarlake. Betty was born in Bozeman, Montana on June 8, 1924, where she lived with her parents, Leland and Edna Ping, her brother Marion, and a large extended family. She later moved to California, where she met and married her husband of 35 years, Lee Waters, who was in the Navy. The spent the early years of their marriage in Florida, Hawaii and the Marshall Islands. After retiring from the Navy, Lee joined the American Red Cross. They continued to move every few years living in Germany, where they travel around most of Western Europe with their family and friends. They returned to the United States, living in California, Arizona and Washington. They both loved to explore the world around them and took frequent trips throughout the United States and Mexico. Upon their retirement, they moved to Clearlake, where Betty joined Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS). She enjoyed the friends she met there and became very active in the organization, by becoming President of the local chapter, as well as holding several other offices. Betty moved to Sacramento in 1983, where she worked as a counselor for trouble teenagers. While in Sacramento, she was a member of a weekly Pinochle Club, which was made up of several very close friends. Betty had three children: Stephan Lee Waters, who passed away in June 2002, Heather April Waters, who resides at Sonoma Development Center and Dawn Amelia Waters Hummel, who resides in Clearlake. Betty is also survived by her three wonderful grandson, Daniel K. Hummel, Jacob A. Hummel and Samuel R. L. Miller. Betty moved back to Clearlake in 2007 to be closer to her daughters. Services will be held at Jones & Lewis Funeral Home on Monday, September 24, 2012, at 2 p.m. A reception will be held following the service at St. Johns Luthern Church in Clearlake.
