

George Weldon Smith, age 99, of Clearlake Oaks, CA., passed away September 24, 2011 in Carmichael, CA. He was born August 14, 1912 in Waurika, OK, the 5th of 10 children to Franklin and Eula Alta Smith. After one year at Oklahoma City Business College, he married Fern Long. They raised a daughter and two sons. George worked as a farmer in Oklahoma. He moved to California where he worked in produce. In 1952 George was partners with his brother Eugene Smith and brother-in-law Richard Creswell and operated a potato packing business in Tulelake, CA, for 22 years. Along with 5 other Charter members, George and Fern formed the First Baptist Church if Tulelake.
George and his wife Fern retired to Lucerne, CA., as well as Clearlake Oaks, CA, for a total of 39 years. The couple enjoyed their retirement on the lake; fishing, boating, gardening, and church work. George was a long term Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Tulelake and Clearlake Oaks, CA. George moved to an assisted living facility in Orangevale, CA., in 2007 where he spent his remaining years. George dedicated his life to his church and caring for his family.
He is survived by his daughter Velva Smith of Carmichael, CA., and son Charles Smith of Aiken, SC.,
7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grand children, and sister, Hazel McCombs of Chickasha, OK.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Fern, and son Jimmie W. Smith
Services will be held on Saturday, October 1st at 11 a.m. at Jones and Lewis Mortuary in Lower Lake, CA. A viewing for friends will be Friday, September 30th 4-6 p.m. In leiu of flowers, donations may be made for First Baptist Church of Clearlake Oaks, P.O.
