

Alvie Gene Ivey ran into the arms of Jesus on March 25, 2026. He was 95 years old. He is survived by his wife of 74 years Kathyrn Noel Ivey and his children Brenda (Randy) Shaffer, Bobby (Debbie) and Steven (Cindy), his grandchildren, Jason Moseley, Coty (Keitha) Ivey, Tony (Susan) Ivey, Geremy Hallford, Amanda (John) Houston, Stephanie (Billy) Mills, his great grandchildren, Skout Moseley, Clay and Cooper Ivey, Savanna Ivey and his great granddaughter Briar Lynn Ivey.
Alvie was born in Hockley County, Texas on December 6, 1930, He grew up farming and graduated from Pettit High School. He attended Wayland College in Plainview where he met his wife, Kathryn. They were married on August 17, 1951. He farmed with his father Floyd Ivey and later with his father-in-law, Walter Noel. He was diagnosed with polio in 1955 and after recovering; he attended school to become a licensed radio telephone operator. After completion, he owned a radio repair business and then worked at a radio station in New Mexico, KVOW in Littlefield, KSEL, KDUB, KFYO, and KDAV. He also built channel 34 in Lubbock from used equipment. Later, he worked at KLBK and KCBD television stations. His last job was in the Mass Communications Department at Texas Tech University, keeping their radio and station working.
After retiring because of post-Polio syndrome, he began traveling all over New Mexico,Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas playing bluegrass music. He and Kathyrn made countless friends.
He graduated from the music program at South Plains College. Alvie played the mandolin, guitar, fiddle and piano. He could hear a song and then play and sing it. He and Kathyrn were members of Monterey Baptist Church.
Alvie loved God, his family and his country. Everyone loved Alvie because he was friendly, Kind, funny and helpful. He showed his love of Christ and all his talents with anyone who asked. He never complained about his disability and found ways to overcome and persevere through it all with a determined spirit
